THE TAKEAWAY:

God’s promises are for everyone who knows him like a father.

THE MESSAGE:

Let me take you on a journey to the late 1900s, when video games were so difficult and unforgiving that kids needed a Game Genie just to finish them. The Game Genie gave Mario unlimited star power, offered immortality to Contra players, multiplied the score of Kid Icarus, and unlocked devastating super moves in Street Fighter II. Any child who knew the cryptic code was entered into a world of luxury and privilege.

God, as a Father, must keep his promises in order to gain our trust and win us over. It’s important to know the kind of promises God makes to his children in order to see them in your life. Here are a few common ones that we can experience every day.

The Promise of a Good Spiritual Journey: God will give you a journey that is healthy and beneficial to your relationship with him.
The Promise of Protection: God will remove certain harmful obstacles from your life to keep you from getting hurt or discouraged.
The Promise of Contentment: God will guide you in living and thriving with only the provisions He provides.
The Promise of a Spiritual Home: God prepares a place for you in his heavenly home.
The Promise of Righteous Provisions: God gives the right resources when we ask for them in Jesus’ name.
The Promise of a Faithful Counselor: God will listen to you and counsel you to be mentally and emotionally healthy.
The Promise of a Perfect Ending: Jesus will return one day to reclaim the world and restore it.*

To fully understand these promises and see their true worth, it’s important we don’t add our own impatient expectations. Notice that God doesn’t promise perfect health, a full bank account, and a stress-free day. These are gifts that you will absolutely see in your lifetime, but they are not promises. God, as a father, offers a life that strengthens and deepens your relationship with Him and uses you to make the world a better place. That is the best compassion and care he can give.

REFLECT OVER IT:

Read: Philippians 1:5-6, John 10:28, John 14:3, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, 1 Peter 5:7, Hebrews 13:5-6, Mark 13:26-27,

  1. In each Bible verse, indicate which promise God is making to his family.
  2. How is Jesus the provider and point man in each of these promises?
  3. How does knowing these promises benefit your life on a daily basis?
  4. Which promise do you need today to connect with the father?
