Pumpkin Jack is a platformer developed by Evil Raptor in the same spirit as classics like Medievil and Ghosts ‘ N Goblins. You play a Pumpkin headed knight who follows the Devil into a mission to save all evil.

Contradicting message aside, Pumpkin Jack puts undead foes and spinning blades of death against the hero as he traverses dark swamps and haunted forests. The mission and the enemy become unclear as you fight the forces of darkness to help the forces of other darkness. But along the way you befriend a crow who grants you the ability to fire guided shots.

Pumpkin Jack is a mocking game, where each death sends you to a respawn screen that belittles the player for losing a life. So far I am up to the 47th screen. Most deaths come from misjudged jumps or being ambushed by enemies. Fighting gets sticky as enemies will rain attacks on you relentlessly, forcing the player to bounce around the level like a bean while trying to produce a good combo.

Pumpkin Jack is a game that flows from level to level seamlessly, making it easy to pick up and play.  The difficulty spikes on some quests, rising the respawn count, but the adventure is always fair. Bosses are, surprisingly, not a nightmare to defeat.

For a fun and easy romp, I recommend Pumpkin Jack. I can see how helping Lucifer can be counter-productive as the protagonist, but the game holds its merit.
