H.G. Wells is the godfather of science fiction. He paved the literary path to hard and soft science adventure stories like War of the Worlds. Since he put pen to paper, Hollywood has been making “interesting” adaptations of his works. Now we have Ice Cube, a DHS hacker, using his government surveillance software to spy on his daughter’s fridge, belittle his son, and give an astounding rebuke to the government for invading privacy, while he invades privacy. Watch in delight as Ice Cube teams up with our Lord and Savior, Amazon delivery services, to stop an alien that uses hacking skills to send mini hacking bugs into a giant pile of data. War of the Worlds (2025) is an ambitious movie that ponders the question, “What if aliens attacked and we handled it like a COVID side project?” Tom Cruise has nothing on this little gem, which fully and unabashedly takes H.G. Wells’ most precious work and turns it into an 80-minute Windows tutorial.
