What is Larna Versus the Lifepires?
So glad you asked. Larna Temple is a content and well-adjusted crime fighter on the streets of Shawdia, taking down art thieves and graffiti vandals. But when a Lifepire kidnaps her, she learns of their sinister plot to take over her city. Their plan? The Lifepires gain their energy by forcing citizens to lose weight and get fit.
This novel is my favorite satire and I was inspired by how many diets and lifestyle changes I could make over the year to get in shape. After trying Keto, Weight Watchers, My Fitness Pal, and intermittent fasting, I envisioned an evil race of sociopathic creatures that used extreme weight loss measures as a weapon to take over the world.
Larna must come to terms with the enemy that is invading her town. They want to spread their ultra fit and sleek gospel on her world, but Lifepires often kill their prey before they gain perfect beach bodies. She also doesn’t appreciate their shame techniques.
I always wanted a quirky and vulnerable femme fatale who had a hidden geeky side, which is why Larna is so much fun to write about. She gushes about hobbies, ponders scientific news, and humbly talks about her body and looks. She is not the stunning and mousey female waiting for Mr. Darcy or Edward Cullen, rather she is a independant soul looking for her purpose. Larna doesn’t get doey eyed from boys because she is too busy trying to have a professional and social life. I love that about her.
Larna’s story dips into Whovian world travel and faith as she works to end the Lifepire threat. She discovers alternate earths where other timelines exist and learns that a higher power is calling her to guard the sacred alternate worlds. Her brother, Kelvin, helps connect her to Jesus in her journey.

I was drawn into the thrilling world of Shawdia alongside Larna Temple, alias Thunderfly, as she battled both crime and personal turmoil. The return of the Lifepires and Larna’s own existential crisis made for a gripping narrative filled with unexpected twists and emotional depth. As I followed Larna’s journey, I was captivated by the intersection of faith, science, and heroism, presented in a way that challenged my own worldview. With its well developed characters and thought provoking themes, this novel provided an engaging read for fans of mystery and thriller genres.
