While we were still sinners, Christ died for us Romans 5:8

MESSAGE:
In the Watchmen series on HBO, the world is protected by superheroes and vigilantes. Issues of racial justice and revenge plague society, as a secret cult of vigilantes conspires to drag society into corruption. When the cult gets too out of hand, and too many lives are at stake, the protagonist, Angela, reveals that her husband is the most powerful being on Earth. She has to crack open his head with a hammer to bring out Dr. Manhattan, a metahuman that can save the world with a flick of his wrist. She tells him, “It’s time to come out. Only you can save us.”

This Easter season reminds us of our need for a savior.  The world is taking some crazy and dark turns, and the old way of fixing it, “think positive and do good,” is not enough. Romans 5:6 says we are powerless to fix anything. Wouldn’t it be great to tap Jesus on the shoulder and say, “It’s time, Jesus?”

We don’t have Jesus’ Final Kingdom Takeover (unless it happens while you are reading this), but we have the promise of his death. Jesus’ death guarantees a restored relationship with God, which makes the world a better place as we live it out.  The miracle of a friendship with God is the key to fixing the world.

It’s easy to treat Jesus’ death like a historical fact that merely changed your application process into heaven, but we need to look at the now. Jesus’ death promises transformation and restoration. It is a living and active path for his followers. We want the whole world to have this because we know there is no other way to get better.
Research: Romans 5:6-11

The passage explains how Jesus’ death created a way to be reconciled (reunited) with God. Why do you think skipping this vital step is dangerous or unhealthy?

The passage shows how reconciliation gives us a new relationship with God. What parts of our world need reconciliation? What parts of your life need reconciliation?

How can our imperfect world be restored while we wait for Jesus to return? How can you participate in it?
