Wall-E
(Love) is not self-seeking 1 Corinthians 13:5

MESSAGE:
Pixar’s Wall-E is brutally bleak about humans’ fate. When Earth becomes uninhabitable, humans spend their time in luxurious spaceships, getting fat and lazy. Everyone is bound to mobile chairs, eating junk food and watching TV. Meanwhile, Wall-E tries to tidy up the earth one block at a time. Thank goodness this movie is only fiction; we are not like that in real life.

The most challenging gap to cross is the distance between ME and YOU. I know all my ME wants. I have a PhD in ME with a minor in MYSELF and a concentration on JUST ME. While I am an expert in ME studies, I would be lucky to squeak out a C minus on a YOU test.

Love is all about YOU. The most selfless statement in our culture is “I love you.” You can’t impress anyone by how much you love and spoil yourself. However, anyone who lives for the joy, health, and comfort of others is truly a hero.

The best husbands put jackets over puddles so their wife’s feet don’t get wet.
The best wives let their husbands choose which movie to go to.
The best dads use their tax refunds to fix things in the house instead of getting a PS5.
The best moms give up a relaxing night to help their kids with a science project.
The best friends put YOU over themselves.

My argument is not a protest against filling your cup with hobbies and comforts. Everyone needs their “me” time, or they will suffer from exhaustion. Even sleep is a “me” thing. But keep this rule in mind: Jesus’ ministry had you as the primary target and goal, earning Him the title of the most selfless hero in history.

This is Paul’s farewell speech to the Ephesian church. He is passing on his leadership to the elders. What advice is he giving them?

Do you agree with Paul’s inspiring quote from Jesus, “It is better to give than to receive?” Why or why not?

How do you begin your day? Choose all that apply.
1. I can’t wait to do a bunch of exciting and fun things
2. I hope I survive
3. Someone is going to benefit from my work and care
4. I wish I could sleep for 18 more hours
What attitude do you want to switch to?
