MESSAGE: Fortnite has two kinds of players: the spray-and-pray warriors and the prepared scout. Spray-and-pray shooting is fun because it has no prep time; it’s all action. The prepared scout knows the layout of the battlefield. They know better than to land on Ice Spice or Snoop Dog Island; they can spot quiet areas with the most supplies and don’t waste their time on fancy grenades. Most importantly, they never forget to thank the bus driver. Jesus warned his disciples that following him was not a quick decision. Though getting excited over the miraculous messiah was very easy, staying devoted to him was a different story. In Luke 14:25-33, Jesus lays out the cost of discipleship, stating that a disciple needs to love him more than family or friends. He shares a parable about a king who wants to go to war. Instead of the spray-and-pray method, the king must map out if going to war will make sense. He must count the supplies, review the enemy, and check on the soldiers. Only then can he make his decision. The same is valid for a contractor. They can’t build a tower without considering the supplies, cost, and time. It’s easy to get discouraged about this conversation, and reflecting on the terms and conditions is crucial. The good news is that you don’t have to master these requirements on day one. This takes a lifetime to understand. The other good news is that Jesus is more than prepared to teach it to you. |
