Killing the things in our life that cause death.

MESSAGE:
In the Death Note saga, Light Yagami discovers a mystical notebook that can kill anyone whose name he writes down. The book was dropped onto Earth because Ryuk, the god of death, was bored. Light uses the book to kill evil people leading a detective to pursue him for the mysterious deaths that are happening. I have some questions about this book. Does it kill the wrong person if you misspell their name? How can it find the right Dan Smith? I am glad that this book does not exist in real life.
In Colossians 3:5 we have another responsibility involving death. The apostle Paul asks his church to put to death their earthly nature. This implies a personal choice they need to make. It takes two steps to follow through on this action: acceptance that your earthly nature is not beneficial with your walk with God, and the will to see it gone forever.
Easier said than done.
I wish putting sin to death was as easy as writing it down in a book, but it involves a lot of personal choices and commitments. Abandoning sin is not a quick death. Sometimes the bad habits we have known for a long time sit in the corner of our room whimpering and crying. The good news is that God will provide a life that shows you never needed that habit, and your life is better without it. God never removes anything that will disconnect you from his life; the one you were meant to have.
Let’s start writing down our sins!
